JOEY CAPUANA
Joey is a storyteller.
Raised on meatballs and sexual repression along the Jersey Shore, Joey Capuana (he/they) is an LA-based screenwriter, playwright, and comic book creator.
Most recently, Joey worked in the writers' room for Netflix's DEAD BOY DETECTIVES and his script HEX was featured on Out in Hollywood's 2023 Out Loud List of best unproduced LGBTQ+ TV pilots. Joey's original comic book series TRANCE – published by Scout Comics and Simon & Schuster – has been optioned for TV by Prodigal Entertainment with Joey writing and developing. He is also developing an animated action-comedy series with Funny Tales Studios and MG Productions based on the NYT-bestselling queer fantasy novel SO THIS IS EVER AFTER by FT Lukens.
After graduating summa cum laude from Northwestern University, Joey was selected as a WGAE “Made in NY” TV Writing Fellow and has developed TV and feature projects with producers Soo Hugh (showrunner, PACHINKO) and Abraham Higginbotham (EP, MODERN FAMILY). Joey also worked as a Writers' Room PA on Netflix's NARCOS and F IS FOR FAMILY and in Action-Adventure Development at Cartoon Network.
As a creator, Joey specializes in writing genre, comedy, and animation, mixing provocative ideas and larger-than-life worlds with lots of heart and humanity. Often focusing on characters torn between multiple identities or dueling desires, Joey's work aims to challenge the idea of who can be a hero.
Joey is represented by Fourth Wall Management and Cohen Gardner LLP.
